Biography

MUSIC FROM AND INSPIRED BY PUMP!

Pump! by Billabong was a seminal 1990 surf documentary that had a brilliantly eclectic soundtrack largely put together by and featuring Johnette Napolitano of Concrete Blonde. Up to now, there has been no soundtrack album to listen to on its own.

Posh Boy Music is proud to honor fallen comrades with this release. Among so many, we've lost Andy Irons who we feature in our digital avatar. Andy was a big fan of the Posh Boy label. We are also missing Rik L Rik whose recordings with The Slaves graced the original soundtrack.

We have included 5 solo recordings by Johnette Napolitano that perfectly provide a surfing groove.

We have added music from the beach, from Southern California's Tearaways, from J Bay in South Africa the sultry sounds of Aletia Upstairs, from the sensational punk metal group Svetlanas, tripping on Born to be Wild, Mary Beth Carty from the shores of Nova Scotia, The Stepmothers and finally Kylie Hughes out of Malibu, California.

VARIOUS ARTISTS - CHANNEL X: THE REJECTED SOUNDTRACK

2 years before the game's release, legendary L A punk label Posh Boy Records were asked to submit a list of 20 of its recordings for a new in-game radio station for Grand Theft Auto V. None of those recordings were used, even though fully half of the groups used in Channel X are associated with the Posh Boy label.

We have now released our own REJECTED music from Channel X. The full album available elsewhere has 4 bonus selections for a total of 24 cuts of early L A hardcore.

The selection featured here are 8 teaser tracks, available as free downloads. These are not obscure groups. Ill Repute, Redd Kross, The Crowd are just of the 3 of the old school groups that belong on your car's stereo!

VARIOUS ARTISTS - THE POSH BOY STOR (MORE OR LESS)

The Posh Boy Story (more or less) is a re-purposing of a 1993 UK released compilation devoted to the famous California punk/new wave Posh Boy label.

For this release we've added some sensational new recordings to go with the classics.
Johnette Napolitano from legendary band Concrete Blonde is here with her haunting version of the Gleaming Spires' song "While We Can".
Another female group included that Posh Boy worked behind the scenes with for Susannah Hoffs' TheAllNighter soundtrack album are the Italian Funky Lips with lead singer Roberta Bacciolo, here with the classic "Respect".
A truly classic punk hit is Amoeba from the still active Adolescents.
Fast forward 30 years and we have The Zapps with their alternative radio friendly Car Song, with Jessica Reynoza from The Willowz singing.
More definitive California punk from Agent Orange with "Everything Turns Grey" and Channel 3's genre bending "I Didn't Know".
A timeless novelty song is Los Microwaves' "Time To Get Up".
Finally for fans of Revenge of the Nerds, here's the middle aged version of (Are You Ready For The) "Sex Girls" performed by Leslie Bohem of Gleaming Spires.
